Dublin South West T.D. Charlie O’Connor has welcomed the announcement by the Tánaiste & Minister for Education and Skills Mary Coughlan T.D. of the training providers which have been approved for an additional €12 million under the Labour Market Activation Fund, two of which are located in Tallaght.
“I’m delighted to see that the Institute of Technology Tallaght and Fledglings Education & Training in Jobstown have each been allocated 20 places for education and training under the Labour Activation fund,” said Deputy O’Connor.
“The training places announced for IT Tallaght are part of the BSc in Pharmaceutical Technology – HETAC level 7 programme while the other 20 places are for training in Early Years Educator and Parent Support Worker Skills – FETAC level 5 at Fledglings in Jobstown.”
“These are very important training places and will provide excellent skills to ensure workers are best placed to secure jobs.”
The Labour Market Activation Fund is targeted at specific priority groups among the unemployed, namely the low skilled, and those formerly employed in declining sectors - construction, retail and manufacturing sectors – with particular emphasis on the under 35s and the long-term unemployed.
“Tallaght has seen a major rise in unemployment and I am very conscious of the difficulty this is causing for families. The Government has put in place a number of very important initiatives to protect existing jobs and certain sectors and attract new investment into the country. The concerns of the people of Tallaght are my priority and secure future employment for those out of work is extremely important to me.”
“I welcome today’s announcement as another positive step for people seeking to up-skill and look forward to more initiatives that will benefit the community in Tallaght,” concluded Deputy O’Connor.
