O’Brien confirms two new permanent schools for Swords

Dublin North T.D. Darragh O’Brien has hailed the decision to award the contract for construction of two school buildings in Swords as a major commitment on the part of the Government to education in North Dublin.

“I’m delighted to confirm that the Tánaiste has informed me that the Project Manager is awarding the contract (Tuesday) to the preferred bidder for the construction of schools buildings for Gaelscoil Bhriain Bóroimhe, Swords and Swords Education Together National School,” said Deputy O’Brien.

“Both schools will have 16 classrooms which will have a very positive impact on the delivery of education in the schools.”

“As part of this project a new community facility will be shared by both schools and will be available to the wider community as well, under an arrangement with Fingal County Council.”

“I have been working on this issue for both schools for some time now and I have met Tánaiste on a number of occasions.  I want to commend both principals, the respective boards of management and the parents' assocations for all their hard work in securing this development.  I'm pleased to have been able to be of some assistance to them in their work,” added Deputy O’Brien.

“This very important project will be delivered as part of the Department’s rapid delivery programme.  I’m delighted to hear that the construction period is set at approximately six months.”

“This is a significant development in education and for much needed community facilities in the Swords area,” concluded Deputy O’Brien.
