Fianna Fáil Arts Spokesperson Seán Ó Fearghaíl TD has expressed his sadness at the death of author Maeve Binchy.
“Maeve was an inspirational woman,” said Deputy Ó Fearghaíl. “Ireland is in mourning today for one of its most beloved national treasures. Her love of life and her ever-optimistic outlook moved so many others to share her world view.
“Maeve's novels were vivid reflections of Irish life, always illuminating and humorous while never shying away from reality. She had the deepest understanding of human nature and it is no surprise that her books touched millions of people all over the world.
“Maeve’s writing and her generosity of spirit inspired so many other Irish writers towards great success. This will be her legacy.
“I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to her husband Gordon and to all of Maeve’s family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.”
