North Dublin set to become “Corridor for Recovery”  - CAREY

Minister Pat Carey TD has said North Dublin will be the Hub for economic recovery under the new €40billion stimulus programme for growth and job creation. The Government’s new Infrastructure priorities programme proposes to build Metro North, centralise DIT in Grangegorman and continuation of Ballymun Regeneration.

The Minister said: “The plan overall is quite ambitious but at the same time is achievable. Nationally it proposes many overall projects which will benefit the local area but there are some major projects in North Dublin. I feel this gives the area the ideal opportunity to become a corridor for recovery.”

“Metro North is now well on track, the European Investment Bank Board to approved a loan of up to €500million for Metro North in May and the decision on the Railway Order from An Bord Pleanala is due in Mid-August. Metro North will link Swords, the Airport, Ballymun, DCU and the City Centre making it the spine of a new corridor. DIT will be also a critical part of this corridor when it moves to its new site at Grangegorman.”

“As somebody with a long personal involvement with DIT I feel this is a major step forward for the college. Aside from the long term investment which will pay off, the employment generated during construction of these projects will be a first step towards recovery.”
