More funding for Waterford homes to participate in Warmer Homes Scheme - Kenneally

More funding has been made available for people from Waterford who wish to take part in the Warmer Homes Scheme in 2010, after a huge number from the county availed of it last year according to local TD Brendan Kenneally. In total 1,491 households from the county participated in the scheme in 2009, with approximately one in ten of all the households who took part in this national scheme last year being based in Waterford.

The scheme is aimed at improving the energy efficiency and comfort conditions of low income households. The improvements include installing attic insulation, draught proofing, lagging jackets, energy efficient lighting and cavity wall insulation amongst other measures.

The focus is on privately owned and rented homes. The scheme engages regional community based organisations to acquire and apply the skills to carry out the energy efficiency work.

“The good news is that I have been assured that there will be more funding made available for the scheme in 2010,” said Deputy Kenneally. “I know there was a lot of interest in the Warmer Homes Scheme from people throughout the county last year. I can assure people who are yet to apply that there will be more funding available for the programme this year.”

“Last year 10% of all the households throughout the country who participated in the programme were based in Waterford. Clearly there is huge interest in this scheme throughout the county. I know that some of the details of applying to participate can be a little complicated so I would be happy to help anyone who is interested in submitting an application.”

“My office already has plenty of experience in helping to get these applications processed so I’d be happy to help anyone who would like to know more about the scheme or who is interested in applying,” Deputy Kenneally concluded.

The Warmer Homes Scheme is administered by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI).
