Mooney returns to Seanad Eireann after topping the poll in Seanad By Election

Well known journalist and broadcaster Paschal Mooney has topped the poll for Fianna Fáil in the Seanad By-Election caused by the untimely death of Senator Peter Callanan.

The count took place in Leinster Houser this morning and Mr Mooney was elected on the first count with 114 votes, ensuring his return to Seanad Eireann on the Agricultural Panel.

The Co. Leitrim native received the unanimous nomination of the Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party to stand in the By Election after receiving more than 48,000 votes in last June’s European Elections, ensuring the election of Pat the Cope Gallagher to the European Parliament in the North and West constituency.

Mr Mooney lives in Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim with his wife Sheila and their five children.
