The new unit will house the Heart Failure service which has been in place
in the Hospital for two years. Minister Brady welcomed the fact that the
service has dramatically reduced re-admission rates for patients attending
the service within this period.
Minister Brady stated that "It is testament to the work of the staff in
this service that within the first year re-admission rates were reduced by
81% and only 12 % of patients were re-admitted in the second year".
The Minister highlighted further benefits of this service, stating that "
Patients and families also report improvements in their quality of life,
improvements in their abilities to self manage the condition within the
community setting, and improvements in adherence to treatment.
