Major South Ring Roadworks approved - Statement by Minister Micheál Martin,

The go ahead has been given for major road improvements along the South Ring Road which will significantly improve traffic flow across large parts of the city, according to local Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin, TD.

"The National Roads Authority has confirmed that it plans to award contracts in the coming months for major works at the Bandon Road and Sarsfield Road interchanges along the N25, one of the main arteries for the Southside of the city."

"It is expected that the funding for the projects will be made available for the design phase- with work to start shortly afterwards."

"In addition to the long term benefits of the improvements for commuters and businesses on the Southside the work will also create many jobs during the construction phase.

"I will be remaining in close contact with the Department of Transport and the National Roads Authority to ensure the contract phase is advanced as quickly as possible, so as we can see construction starting at the earliest possible date", concluded Minister Martin.
