A local group working to assist older people will receive Government funding to help them in their work according to Longford Fianna Fail TD Peter Kelly.
"The Woodview Residents Association will receive €4,060 under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People from the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs."
"The Scheme was suspended in April to allow for a review of operation to ensure best value for money and effective running of the Scheme. The Review has now been completed and a draft report is being prepared."
"Woodview Residents Association made an application prior to the suspension of the Scheme and I am delighted that they will now receive the funding."
"The funding will be used to improve the security of older people in their homes with funding available for once-off cost of installing socially monitored alarm systems and small items of physical security such as security lighting, smoke alarms, window & door locks and door chains."
"These measures can often make the difference in older people maintaining their independence and making the decision to remain in their own homes and at the heart of their communities for longer."
"I know that the responsible Minister, John Curran was pleased to be in a position to honour the commitment to fund Woodview Residents Association and that he recognises the importance of the Scheme."
"Groups like Woodview Residents Association do excellent work in supporting older people in the community and I would like to commend them for their hard work and dedication," concluded Deputy Kelly.
