Labour Party cannot even name 3 Principles they will stand by - Conlon

It’s clear that the Labour Party favours soundbites over policies, according to Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan Monaghan Margaret Conlon. Deputy Conlon was referring to the Vincent Brown Show last night where Labour’s Ciaran Lynch couldn’t come up with 3 principals that distinguish his party.

“Last night on Vincent Browne on TV3’s Nightly News Ciaran Lynch couldn’t even come up with three principles that distinguish his party from other political parties in the Dáil and that they would agree to stand by”.

“When pressed by Vincent Browne, Deputy Lynch struggled to come up with only one out of three. Firstly he claimed that the Labour party believed housing should be viewed as buying a home. I think it is safe to say the entire country would agree with that banal statement.

“Secondly, Deputy Lynch claimed the Labour Party remains committed to a setting up a new investment bank. This is unnecessary given that we have recapitalised the two major banks and they are now required to make funding available for SMEs.

“Finally Deputy Lynch said the Labour Party stood for the abolition of upward only rent reviews. Perhaps he doesn’t realise the Government recently introduced legislation to ban upward only rent reviews and a working group has been set up a working work to examine doing this retrospectively.

“This same party that has done a u-turn on stag hunting sat on the fence on the Croke Park Deal, on local government reform and even voted against legislation to tackle gangland criminals. How can they claim they are ready for Government?”, concluded Deputy Margaret Conlon
