Galway East Fianna Fáil TD Michael P Kitt has re-iterated his call for the establishment of dedicated Passport Offices for the West and North West regions.
“Following the disruption at the Dublin City Centre passport office this week, I am acutely aware of the inconvenience experienced by many people from County Galway who were waiting on a passport.”
“People from the West and North West have been particularly badly affected because they have had to travel long distances to Dublin if they needed their passport quickly.”
“The passport office in Cork has been an enormous success and I believe that if similar offices were established to serve the West and North West region, it would have meant significantly less hassle for many people. It would not be expensive to provide a passport office at a regional airport, for example.”
“I called for the establishment of such an office when I was Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, and I believe that the suggestion has renewed relevance this week following the disruption in the Dublin City Centre office.”
“In the interests of balanced regional services, I think that it is something that the Government should seriously look at and I have made my views known to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin TD,” concluded Michael P Kitt TD.
