Kenny Children’s Hospital promise is deeply cynical - Andrews

Enda Kenny’s pledge today to prioritise the new national children’s hospital is deeply cynical in light of his private insurance funding commitment which will remove all guaranteed funding for hospitals.

This week Fine Gael issued a health policy which explicitly said that guaranteed funding for hospitals will end in three years’ time and the national planning of services will be ended with the abolition of the HSE.  If you have no national hospital funding and no body to develop strategic services there is simply no way you can keep to Enda Kenny’s election promise on the national children’s hospital.

This cynical tactic of trying to be on every side of the health issue at once has been copied by Fine Gael candidates throughout the country who have a policy of ending secure local funding but are signing petitions to guarantee the retention of every local service.
