Kennedy secures confirmation of €6,000 for North Dublin seniors’ group

Dublin North T.D. Michael Kennedy has secured confirmation from the Minister for Health and Children Mary Harney T.D. that Donabate Portrane Senior Citizens Committee has been approved a €6,000 lottery grant.

“I am delighted to confirm the Minister has informed me that she has approved a grant of €6,000 for Donabate Portrane Senior Citizens Committee which will be used to continue support for older members of the community.  This is very important news for the Committee as it provides very important services to senior citizens,” said Deputy Kennedy.

“I made representations to the Minister on behalf of the Committee and I’m very pleased this has contributed to the grant being approved.  I have been informed that the Department will formally notify Donabate Portrane Senior Citizens Committee of the grant approval in the coming days.”

“This is another example of the commitment the Government has shown to older people in the North Dublin area.  Donabate Portrane Senior Citizens Committee has also received funding under the new Seniors Alert Scheme, previously known as Scheme of Community Support for Older People.  This money goes towards purchasing equipment to improve safety and security in the homes of older people including monitored personal alert systems, monitored smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, external security lighting and internal emergency lighting.”

“I am very happy to see this further commitment to senior citizens in my constituency and will continue to support groups in this area,” concluded Deputy Kennedy.
