Keaveney congratulates Derry on its successful bid to become City of Culture

With the decision that Derry has succeeded in being chosen to be the City of Culture 2013 will be a huge boost to the entire North West, according to Senator Cecilia Keaveney.

"This was a title that many people worked hard to achieve and I commend everyone who contributed to the success of the bid.

In some respects the work begins now. There is now a real goal, which is to sell the Secret of the North West to the many thousands of people that will be attracted into the region.

It is a unique chance that I know all the agencies involved particularly in Tourism but also in Employment must rise to. We will see a return for Derry and Donegal. The scale of that success will match the strength of continued efforts made now post the success of this bid.

In short, the door has been opened by this announcement but, while we have plenty to sell, we cannot relax. Let the drive begin!"
