John Browne T.welcomes funding for 67 groups under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People

John Browne T.D. would like to welcome the announcement today 10/06/2010 by Pat Carey T.D., Minister at the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, to announce funding for 67 groups under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People totalling over €233,000 in funding. Over €949,000 has been approved this year to date under the Scheme with 253 groups receiving funds. The Scheme of Community Support for Older People is now closed to applications and has been replaced by the new Seniors Alert Scheme.

Announcing the funding John Browne T.D. said:

"As a result of today’s allocation a further 738 older persons will have benefited from the Scheme. He would be confident that the equipment made available by this funding will bring safety and peace of mind to older people and enhance their security.’’

The Scheme is open to people aged 65 and over who have a genuine need for assistance. Funding is available towards the cost of installing monitored personal alert systems, monitored smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, external security lighting and internal emergency lighting.
