Infrastructural works to start on Killybegs Tourism College - Tanaiste

The works at the Tourism College in Killybegs are among the projects which start construction this year as part of the Government’s €132 million building plan for the higher education sector.

Killybegs Tourism College, which is part of Letterkenny Institute of Technology, is a significant provider of courses in hospitality and tourism and caters for 150 students.

A multi-purpose lecture theatre will be provided as part of the works, to facilitate large groups for teaching with the aid of audio-visual technology, cookery demonstrations, student induction and other assemblies.

The project will also include health and safety works such as the upgrading of floors, fire doors, ventilation ductworks, and emergency lighting systems.

Announcing the project today, the Tánaiste said: ‘Building work is expected to be completed before the end of the year on the health and safety and infrastructure works.'

She said the €132 million investment demonstrates the importance the Government attaches to strategic national infrastructure projects in higher education.

‘The investment targets core undergraduate facilities and the growth and expansion of our research capacity in the building of the knowledge economy.

‘Despite the severe economic conditions, we’re continuing our programme of investment in upgrading and modernising our universities, institutes of technology and other colleges,’ concluded the Tánaiste.
