Galway to Limerick line of Western Rail Corridor to open in March – Fahey

Galway West Fianna Fáil TD Frank Fahey has confirmed that the Galway to Limerick line of the Western Rail Corridor will open on March 30th.

The news was confirmed to Deputy Fahey by Iarnród Eireann today.

“Full services on the Galway to Limerick route will start operating from March 30th following the reconstruction of the Ennis to Athenry line.”

“The service will launch with five services in each direction, Monday to Saturday, serving all stations en route, with four services each way on Sundays.”

“The Ennis to Athenry part of the line will link the towns of Sixmilebridge, Gort, Ardrahan, Craughwell, Oranmore, Athenry and Galway.”

“I have sought a meeting with John Lynch of CIE to discuss progress on a new station at Oranmore. I will also discuss with him the need for priority to be given for a park and ride facility at the station.”

“The Government has invested very significantly in the Western Rail Corridor and it is wonderful to see it come to fruition. I would like to encourage the public to support the WRC by using it. It will open up commuter possibilities for many people and it will also make travel between the Galway and Limerick easier for tourists visiting the region,” concluded Frank Fahey TD.
