Funding of over €19,000 for Kerry Museums - O’Donoghue

Three Kerry museums are to receive funding of over €19,000 according to Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue. The funding is being made available under the Scheme to assist Local and Regional Museums and the Mobility of Collections Scheme 2010.

Kerry County Museum is being provided with €6,300 for the ‘Kerry Lives’ Lecture Series, Muckross Traditional Farms will receive €7,260 for their A Folklife Exhibition and Músaem Chorca Dhuibhne will get €4,500 for the translation of their website to German, Spanish and French and a further €1,300 for the translation of museum exhibition text into Spanish.

Speaking about the funding, Deputy O’Donoghue said, “This is very welcome funding that will be of great benefit to the three Kerry museums. As a county that relies heavily on tourism it is important that we continue to update and provide investment funding for our various visitor attractions.”

“The many museums throughout Kerry are a strong part of our cultural tourism offering and they are always of interest to tourists from a variety of different global locations. I’m delighted that this money has been made available as it will ensure more projects are being made available for tourists and will also broaden the outreach of other exhibitions and services so they can reach more audiences.”

“Kerry museums provide a great educational and cultural outlet and are always highly regarded. I have no doubt that the funding being provided in these latest grants will be well spent and I would like to congratulate all those involved in these museums. I hope these grants will help them to keep up the tremendous work they have been doing and attract even more visitors during the coming months,” Deputy O’Donoghue concluded.
