There is to be a funding boost for essential flood works in Tullow and Leighlinbridge according to local Fianna Fáil TD MJ Nolan.
“I am delighted that two flood relief projects in Carlow are to receive funding.”
“In Tullow the minor flood relief scheme is to receive €450,000. The funds will pay for the construction and installation of walls, berms and flood gates along the River Slaney. The drainage system along Thom Traynor Road will also be upgraded and pumps will be installed.”
“In Leighlinbridge funding of €260,000 will pay for flood alleviation works along the River Barrow at the Carlow Road at the Lord Bagenal Hotel and Barrow Track at Garrison House as well as ancillary drainage works.”
“I have been in contact with the Minister of State at the Office of Public Works, Martin Mansergh TD about the need for funding for these works so I am pleased to see that it is now being made available.”
“I impressed upon the Minister the need for flood relief in these areas and the importance of getting the work started as soon as possible.”
“It is essential that local residents and businesses are protected from potential flooding. The expense following a flood is bad enough but the inconvenience and distress caused to homeowners and businesses is also very distressing.”
“I look forward to this work commencing as soon as possible and I am hopeful that it will also provide employment for local construction and building firms,” concluded Deputy Nolan.
