Local T.D. Michael McGrath has welcomed the news that a six week education programme for people with type 2 diabetes will start in Carrigaline on Tuesday, 6th July.
‘The HSE programme is free of charge and helps the person to have more control over their diabetes and to improve their health. Diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes, is a major public health issue and is on the rise in Ireland,’ according to Deputy McGrath.
‘In response, the HSE South Community Dieticians are delivering the X-PERT Programme, an award winning group programme which aims to inform people about their diabetes, enabling them better to look after themselves and their condition. I would like to commend the HSE for undertaking this important public health initiative. We need to see more initiatives like this rolled out at community level into the future,’ added Deputy McGrath.
The X-PERT programme is free, informal and participants get a handbook for information. If you are interested in attending the programme in Carrigaline, or would like more information, please contact the HSE South Community Dieticians on Tel no. 4921 641.
