Almost €9,000 in funding has been allocated to three Roscommon groups under the Government’s Community Support for Older People Scheme, according to local Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Housing and Local Services, Michael Finneran TD.
- €3,763.00 Arm Williamstown Rd Community Alert
- €3,929.00 SVDP Strokestown
- €1,249.00 Edmondstown Community Alert
Welcoming the funding, Minister Finneran said:
“This funding has been allocated by the Minister for Community Affairs and the National Drugs Strategy John Curran TD under the Community Support for Older People Scheme.”
“The Community Support for Older People Scheme encourages and assists the community’s support for older people by the means of a community-based grant to improve the safety and security of its older members.”
“The funding will help to pay for small security measures including a contribution towards the cost of installing monitored personal alarm systems, the cost of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, external security lighting and other small items like locks.”
“While these measures may appear small they often make all the difference in giving an older person the confidence to remain in their own homes and at the heart of their communities for longer.”
“I would like to commend everyone involved with the Arm Williamstown Rd Community Alert, Edmondstown Community Alert and the SVDP Strokestown for their hard work and dedication,” concluded Minister Michael Finneran TD.
