Fine Gael rubbishes NewERA again - Calleary

First Noonan, now Bruton rubbishes FG’s jobs plan.

That’s according to Dara Calleary Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo and Minister for Labour Affairs, who made the comments after hearing Deputy Richard Bruton, Fine Gael's Enterprise Spokesperson on Newstalk’s Breakfast programme this morning.

Speaking on Breakfast, Deputy Bruton said of NewEra, Fine Gael's much vaunted jobs plan: "The essence of the proposal isn’t creating jobs."

Deputy Bruton’s remark comes only weeks after Deputy Michael Noonan, Fine Gael’s Finance Spokesperson described the jobs target in New-Era as a "public relations add-on".
Minister Calleary said: "Deputy Bruton’s comments are nothing short of bizarre. Surely, the very essence of a jobs plan is to create jobs."

Minister Calleary continued: "If Fine Gael’s own Enterprise and Finance Spokespersons don’t have confidence in NewEra to create jobs, why should anyone else?"

Minister Calleary said: "Despite having launched New-Era three times, it seems that Fine Gael still can’t agree on what its main objective should be."

"While Fine Gael continues to grapple with their policies, the Government remains focussed on maintaining and creating jobs. We are investing almost €40 billion over the next six years in critical infrastructure that will provide jobs and support economic growth. This is proportionately one of the largest capital investment programmes in Europe. We have introduced a wide range of new initiatives aimed maintaining and creating jobs such as the Employment Subsidy Scheme, the Enterprise Stabilisation Fund and the PRSI (Job) Incentive scheme. We also recently launched a €500 million innovation fund aimed at attracting venture capitalists to invest here," Minister Calleary concluded.
