The service had been due to cease in July, but funds which were previously allocated by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs to Pobal for the pilot scheme, and which have not yet been spent, will now be used to cover the costs of the service until the end of the year.
Welcoming the news, Senator Ellis said:
“I know that the extension of this pilot scheme will be very much welcomed by the people who have used it.”
“It has certainly been a success and I would hope that a way can be found for the service to remain on into next year.”
