DDDA REFUSAL TO DISCUSS RENTS – ANDREWS CALLS ON BRENNAN TO MAKE A STATEMENT

Chris Andrews, outgoing Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin South East, is calling Professor Niamh Brennan, Chairman of Dublin Dockland Development Authority (DDDA), to respond to charges made by a tenant of the Authority at CHQ, Carphone Warehouse.

According to Carphone Warehouse the DDDA has not only refused to negotiate on rents but has in fact cut the lines of communication with their tenant.

Andrews said the statement by Carphone Warehouse today in relation to the treatment meted out to the company by DDDA is “nothing short of alarming.”

“It is simply not acceptable, particularly for a semi-state company, to refuse to enter into any form of dialogue with a tenant in relation to rent levels,” he said.

“The CHQ is not working as intended when it was launched and the DDDA has to take some responsibility for this.

“But quite apart from that we are in a different world now than we were in 2007 and the DDDA needs to recognise this and behave realistically,” he said.
