John Curran TD has responded to the series of polls to appear in Sunday’s newspapers.
He commented, “After only a few days as leader of Fianna Fáil Micheál Martin is getting an incredible response to his call for a new type of politics and a serious election about the future of our country. He has said already that Fianna Fáil’s vote will not be turned around overnight, but we will fight this election with energy and a real plan for a better future.
“At 16%, the support for Fianna Fáil is lower than we would like, but given the turmoil of recent weeks and the fact that one newspaper had us on 8% last week, it’s a great start.
“One thing is absolutely clear. Every party has been put on notice that the public shouldn’t be taken for granted. The public are engaged in public affairs in a way that they haven’t been in a very long time. They deserve an open and honest debate between the three largest parties on the policies that are need to move the country forward and secure our country’s recovery.
“Perhaps when Enda Kenny, the man who would be Taoiseach, reflects on these polls, he will reconsider his ill-considered decision to avoid serious debate on the big issues.”
