Curran meets with South Inner City Local Drugs Task Force

John Curran T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs with responsibility for National Drugs Strategy met today with representatives from the South Inner City Local Drugs Task Force to discuss a number of issues, including the new National Drugs Strategy and the establishment of the Office of the Minister for Drugs.

Speaking after the meetings, Minister of State Curran said "I am always encouraged by the commitment and hard work of Drugs Task Forces and today is no exception. South Inner City Local Drugs Task Force does extremely hard work on the ground and I know that their clients and the community in general are very grateful for that. The Drugs Task Force supports many projects in their local areas, including family support projects, peer education, rehabilitation facilities and residents' association grants. Their experience and ability in these areas are irreplaceable and I congratulate them on their achievements to date.

I am delighted that my Department continues to fund such a worthwhile organisation, and that this year's allocation for the South Inner City Local Drugs Task Force comes to over €2.4 million. I know that the members of the Task Force will be working closely with staff of the new Office of the Minister for Drugs in the coming weeks and months to ensure continued focus on front line services."
