Cork Water Supplies receive €1.6 million - Minister Micheál Martin, TD

Government funding of €1.6 million is being provided to Cork County Council to ensure that homes in its area are receiving a safe and secure water supply, according to Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin.

“The funding will be targeted at areas which have been identified as having a public water supply that is at risk of being unfit to drink. It will be used for small scale works which will ensure the continuation of supply of clean drinking water.”

“Works which will be carried out include upgrading of disinfection facilities, connections to alternative water supplies as well as the provision of chlorine and monitors to alert the Council when a system failure occurs.”

“The funding for Cork County Council is part of a nationwide investment of €10 million nationwide. Over the past two years the Government has provided €18 million for such works targeted at these at risk areas.”

“It is important that now the funding has been announced that work is carried out quickly so as communities in Cork can enjoy the benefits at an early date”, concluded Minister Martin.
