Cork roads to receive funding of €46.5 million - Minister Martin

Cork county and regional roads are to receive funding of €46.5 million for major improvements, according to Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin

“It has been confirmed that the City Council is to receive funding of €4.2 million to carry out important works. Communities across the city will benefit, in addition a number of projects have been prioritised on safety grounds, I am pleased to note these include intersections along the Skehard Rd as well as Blackrock Rd and Church Rd.”

“Further funding of €42.3 million is being made available to the County Council. Again all areas are set to benefit, but projects prioritised include works at Rochestown, Passage, Monkstown and Carrigaline.”

“Confirmation of this major investment in our roads by the Government could not have come at a more important time. Roads throughout Cork have deteriorated during the recent bad weather and it is important that repairs are carried out as quickly as possible.”

“The Government has maintained the level of funding in regional and county roads so as we can repair the damage that has happened and protect the investment made in recent years to improve Cork’s roads.”

“Nationally the Government will be investing €34m a month on the regional and county road network. In the case of both the City and County Council in Cork the level of funding is on a par with that of 2009 and underlines the Government’s commitment to ensuring we have the infrastructure to support our economy and jobs”, concluded Minister Martin.
