Cork Heritage sites to receive major Government Funding - Minister Micheál Martin, TD

Cork Heritage sites which are crucial to the local tourism industry are to receive Government funding of over €500,000 according to Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin.

“The funding will be used to protect local heritage buildings and sites throughout the city and county. These structures are a concrete link to our history, give us all a sense of pride in Cork and attract tourists into our communities.”

“Both the City and County Council will receive funding, with extra cash also being made available for individual sites

Cork County Council €292,000

Cork City Council €102,000

Bantry House €75,000

Ballincollig Gunpowder Mills €50,000

In addition the Cork City Walls will be included in a €850,000 nationwide projected to protect our walled areas.”

“The upkeep of these sites is important to ensure that they continue to exist for future generations of Cork people and visitors to enjoy. Whether it is our historic gardens, abbeys or castles there are many heritage sites throughout our communities for us to enjoy and be proud of.”

“The funding announced by the Government will help protect the structures from eroding and will ensure they remain safe for visitors”, concluded Minister Martin.
