Funding for improvements to the Cork homes of older people and people with a disability has been increased by the Government, according to Fianna Fail TD and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheal Martin.
“It has been confirmed that a total of €10.8 million has been set aside by the Government this year for improvements to private homes to ensure that older members of our communities and people with a disability can live in comfort and security in their own homes.”
“The total for the city and county represents a significant increase of €1.2 million on the total level of funding provided for last year.”
“Under the new round of funding the County Council will receive an allocation of €8.1 million with a further €2.7 million being made available for improvements to homes in the City Council area.”
“The funding can be used by both councils to cover two thirds of the costs of essential repairs to a house, or in the case of Adaptation Grant Schemes, to make a house safer and more accessible up to 80% of costs can be covered.”
“The increase in funding again reflects the Government´s commitment to look after those in need of support, despite the current economic challenges.”
“Now the level of support has been confirmed it is important that we see the cash turned into positive work as quickly as possible so as people will enjoy the benefits at the earliest possible date. In announcing the funding the Government has also confirmed that it will use the maximum level of flexibility possible so the housing needs of pensioners and people with disabilities can be addressed”, confirmed Minister Martin.
