Cope to raise French football ‘fiasco’ in European Parliament

Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP, the leader of the Fianna Fáil group in the European Parliament, said today that he will raise the unfair manner by which the French football team secured victory against Ireland last Wednesday night at the European Parliament when it convenes in Strasbourg on Monday.

Pat the Cope said: “I urge the French Football Association and FIFA to replay the match in the interests of fair play and respect for the rules of the game.”

“The recommendations in the EU White Paper on Sport, which will be implemented following the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty, encourages the principles of fair play and respect for others. Cheating undermines the integrity of sport and those who administer sport must make a stand against it.”
