Convention Centre will be enchanced by Metro North - Kennedy

Dublin North T.D. Michael Kennedy has welcomed the opening the new Convention Centre Dublin as “a triumph for Dublin and the country that will drive investment and job creation.”

“The new convention centre in the Docklands which has already hosted more than a hundred top international buyers and influencers in the world of business tourism (Wednesday) is a tremendous asset for the country.  This conference in particular - Meet in Ireland 2010 Workshop - will showcase the facility to major players in overseas markets,” said Deputy Kennedy who is Vice chairman Joint Committee on Arts, Sports and Tourism.

“Our capital city is being transformed.  The Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) is easily accessible for international visitors with a journey time of just 20 minutes from Dublin Airport via the Port Tunnel and is also served by the Luas and nearby DART.  The completion of the national motorway network also facilitates nationwide access to the Convention Centre.  The construction of the Metro and DART Underground will be the final piece of the jigsaw, integrating the capital’s entire transport infrastructure and making Dublin an extremely attractive city on the world stage.  This is will drive inward investment and boost job creation.”

“The €4 billion Metro North will create 7,000 jobs in the construction phase alone and an independent report has identified that 37,000 jobs could be created in the new economic corridor along the Metro route from the city centre to the airport and on to Swords,” added Deputy Kennedy.

“The Government is committed to investing in the infrastructure needed to sustain economic recovery and drive growth and job creation.  We are investing €40 billion on capital projects up to 2016.  There will also be much greater value for money for the taxpayer as tender prices are down by 30%.”

“Over one thousand international companies now use Ireland as a European base and many of these are located in Dublin such as Google, Facebook and Ebay.  This is a major significant vote of confidence from the international business world in Ireland's future.  The opening of the Convention Centre Dublin will play a key role in attracting more conference market clients to Ireland and easy rail access from Dublin Airport to the city will copperfasten growth opportunities.  This will bring money into the country and crucially support job creation,” concluded Deputy Kennedy.
