Local TD and Minister for Labour Affairs Dara Calleary TD said he is proud to welcome An Taoiseach Brian Cowen TD to Ballina today.
The Taoiseach will visit a number of schools, Lionbridge, and the site of the new Ballina Medical Centre during the course of his visit.
Minister Calleary said; “I’m delighted to be welcoming the Taoiseach to my home town of Ballina today. He is a regular visitor to the area himself, but the last time he was here in an official capacity was to address the Humbert School in August 2007 after the last General Election.”
“This is a day of celebration for Ballina. We are delighted to have the Taoiseach conduct the official opening of St Dympna’s and St Nicholas’ Special Schools. It is a day of huge importance for the schools’ students, their parents, the staff and the various boards of managements who worked so hard to make the new schools a reality. I’m proud of the small role I played in helping them achieve their goal and I am delighted that the Taoiseach could come down to conduct the opening.”
“The Taoiseach is also visiting Cahra National School in Bonniconlon to raise the school’s Green Flag. The Green Flag project has been an enormous success around the country and the Taoiseach’s role in the Cahra School’s flag raising ceremony is a great endorsement of the importance of the project in starting good recycling habits at an early school stage. Cahra NS is the alma mater of local Councillor Annie May Reape and I know she is very much looking forward to welcoming the Taoiseach to the school. ”
“I am delighted that the Taoiseach is visiting Lionbridge also. Lionbridge is in Ballina for more than a decade now and it has been very successful in the internet security industry. We have had our unemployment issues in Ballina down through the years but the success of this company shows the potential of the entire North Mayo region for industries such as this.”
“The Taoiseach is also taking time out to catch up with Dr Tom and Sean Moffat at the site of their new Medical Centre. Once completed this will be a flagship facility for Ballina and I wish the Moffat family every success with the Centre,” concluded Minister Calleary.
