Kells Fianna Fail TD, Thomas Byrne yesterday attended the launch of the Armoy/Kells Cross Border motorcycle championship in Stormont, Belfast.
“I was delighted to travel to Stormont with members of the Kells MCRC, including Chairman Johnny Lady, Councillors from Kells Town Council including my colleagues Cllr Bryan Reilly and Cllr Frankie Lynch and the Road Safety Officer with Meath County Council, Michael Finnegan, for the launch of the Armoy/Kells Cross Border Championship.”
“There was a great crowd supporting the launch at Stormont that was organised by the Armoy Club in Antrim and was hosted by local motor cycle fan, Ian Paisley Jr. MLA. Ian Paisley Senior also attended.”
“This will be a two round championship with a total of £6,000 in prize money on offer."
“I am pleased to see that the motor cyclists are also involving other sports enthusiasts in the event as they hope to welcome the Rugby and Gaelic teams from Armoy to Kells to play matches in the week leading up to the race. The Kells Cougars and our local soccer team will also visit Co. Antrim.”
"The Kells races on their own are a huge tourism boost to North Meath, bringing over 30,000 people to the area. I am delighted to be supporting it in the week I opened my constituency office in Kells."
"These events will go a long way to promoting cross border friendships and healthy competition. I hope that these will be the first of many such events,” concluded Deputy Byrne.
