Bandon Mayor seeks suspension of pay-parking during works

A Fianna Fáil motion calling for the suspension of pay-parking in Bandon while drainage works continue has been passed at the monthly meeting of the Southern Area Roads Committee.

Introduced by the Mayor of Bandon Cllr Gillian Coughlan, the motion was passed following with the support of Cllr Alan Coleman and Mayor of Kinsale Cllr Billy Lynch, despite the opposition of Fine Gael members Cllr Kevin Murphy and Cllr Veronica Neville.

During the course of the debate at the meeting last Friday evening, Cllr Coughlan said, “When works progressed to the Central Business District of Bandon, a suspension of pay-parking by Cork County Council would act as a gesture of goodwill to the rate-payers of the town and to the people who will be unavoidably inconvenienced.”

Cllr Coughlan added that without this suspension free parking in Bishopstown and Clonakilty could become very attractive to Banon motorists.   She pointed out that this would hit the local economy in Bandon at a time when the town can ill afford it.
