The Department of Agriculture Office in Ballybay has been chosen by the Department to implement Phase 3 of the National Aujeszky’s Disease Control and Eradication Programme, according to local Fianna Fáil TD Margaret Conlon.
The information was confirmed to her by her colleague, the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD.
“The Department of Agriculture Office in Ballybay has been chosen to implement the third phase of the National Aujeszky’s Disease Control and Eradication Programme.”
“The Programme is being carried out by the Government to officially eliminate the disease from the national pig herd.”
“This is good news for the Ballybay office and reaffirms the Government commitment to keep the office open, despite claims to the contrary by the opposition last year.”
“Two phases of the National Aujeszky’s Disease Control and Eradication Programme have already been carried out and the disease has practically been eliminated from Ireland. This is an important exercise by the Government because the future of agriculture in the country will be influenced to a very large extent by our ability to control and eradicate animal disease.”
“Details of the phase 3 of the programme are being finalised by the Department now and herd owners will receive their notifications in due course,” concluded Margaret Conlon TD.
