Dublin South Senator Maria Corrigan has secured a commitment from the Tánaiste & Minister for Education and Skills Mary Coughlan T.D. that Our Lady’s Girl’s National School, Ballinteer be approved for the Water Conservation Scheme 2010.
“In October new funding of almost €10 million was announced for this scheme nationwide which would see works carried out a primary and post primary schools in order to reduce water use in schools,” said Senator Corrigan.
“The inclusion of Our Lady’s Girl’s National School in the scheme will be of great benefit to the school and reduce its running costs.
“Funding is being provided to participating schools to finance projects such as the installation of water displacement devices, percussion spray taps, thermostatic mixing valves and other water controls.”
Since January 1st 2010, under the EU Water Framework Directive, all schools are liable for full metered water charges, which are set and collected by local authorities.
“In October I was delighted to confirm that more than 30 schools across Dublin South were included in the scheme and I’m very pleased Our Lady’s Girl’s National School is joining that list,” concluded Senator Corrigan.
