Dublin South East Fianna Fáil T.D. Chris Andrews has welcomed the announcement that over €700,000 has been granted for cycling related schemes around Dublin under the Government’s Smarter Travel Project Fund.
“The most significant announcement here is that over half a million euro (€529,600) is being spent on a pilot project (2½ years) to support the deployment of electric vehicles in Eircom's commercial fleet, and the provision of fast charging facilities in some Topaz garages. This project will provide essential information and help plan for more sustainable transport.”
“The Dublin City Cycling Campaign is also being allocated €12,000 to prepare a business plan and produce an online ‘Bikeability’ map of Dublin city centre. Among the information that will be outlined will be the facilities for cyclists including lanes, bike shops and parking.”
“I’m very happy to see that the Minister for Transport is also providing €170,000 to Dublin City Council to explore the possibility of alternative goods and service delivery including cycle and LUAS. This will look at the feasibility of using the successful LUAS infrastructure at night for moving goods into the city.”
“The Government is taking the right decisions to secure the future through creating more sustainable transport options for Dubliners.”
