Local Fianna Fáil TD, Chris Andrews, said older people in Dublin South East are set to benefit following the decision to recommence grants under the Community Support for Older People.
According to Deputy Andrews, the grants, funded by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, will be re-opened after the suspension of the Scheme was lifted by Minister John Curran. Deputy Andrews said, "I am pleased that Dublin South East’s community and voluntary organisations participating in the Scheme will once again be able to receive this valuable funding. I understand that local groups have been notified and have been advised of the conditions attaching to the reopening of the current Scheme." The funding goes towards the provision of a range of security systems including monitored alarms, security lighting and smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. "Local organisations throughout Dublin South East carry out excellent work on a daily basis and I hope that today’s announcement reassures those involved in these valuable projects and older people in the community, whose contribution should never be underestimated," added Deputy Andrews.
