Additional Funding for Gweedore Flooding - Cope

Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP has confirmed that Mr Martin Mansergh TD, Minister of State, Office of Public Works, has approved funding in the sum of €250,479 under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works Scheme, towards remedial works arising from the flooding in Gweedore in June 2009.

This funding will go towards replacement of structures, drainage works and a hydrological study. This allocation supplements the funding provided by the Department of Transport which was partially spent in 2009.

The balance of the Department of Transport funding and this most recent allocation should be sufficient to carry out the work to the bridges in Derrybeg and surrounding areas. It is hoped to have the works carried out by the end of the year.

Pat the Cope, Ministers Mary Coughlan and Éamon O Cuív visited the effected areas at the time of the flooding after which they made a strong case to Government for funding.

This announcement has been warmly welcomed by Cllr David Alcorn.
