Fianna Fáil Senator Mary White today facilitated an exclusive preview of the documentary film ‘Girl Rising,’ it tells the stories of 9 girls from around the world, showcasing the strength of human spirit and the power of education.
The documentary was made by film company 10x10 and the production is at the centre of their global campaign to educate and empower girls to change the world.
Brendan Cannon, Director of Corporate Affairs with Intel Ireland and David Dalton, CEO, Plan Ireland addressed the gathering about the impact and relevance of the film.
Senator White commented: “The message of ‘Girl Rising’ is that one girl with courage can be a revolution and change is infectious.
“It is shocking to think that in the 21st century girls are being denied the right to an education and a bright future. Globally, 66 million girls are currently not enrolled in either primary or secondary education.
“Girls face barriers to education that boys do not, with 33 million fewer girls than boys are in primary school.
“This issue is global, even in Irish politics today female representation is very low. Today, the eve of International Women’s Day, I would urge each and every girl to fight for their education, for their future and for generation of girls to come,” concluded Senator White.
