North Tipperary T.D. Máire Hoctor has confirmed that €600,000 in extra funding has been secured from the Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government for the Rural Water Programme.
“This funding is very welcome” said the Deputy, “I have been working with the Department of Environment over the past months strongly putting forward the case for increased funding”.
“The Rural Water Programme helps to address deficiencies in group water schemes, small public water schemes, sewerage schemes and also private supplies where there is no alternative group or public supply is available” she said.
“This extra funding will directly translate into assistance for rural dwellers to upgrade their water supplies. It is both an important public health issue and matter of managing our environmental resources in the best way possible” Deputy Hoctor added.
The €600,000 extra funding will be added to the block allocation of €1,775,000 given by the Department of the Environment to North Tipperary County Council this year for the Rural Water Programme.
