€4.87 million for home improvements schemes in three Tipperary villages – Hoctor

North Tipperary T.D. Máire Hoctor has welcomed Department of Environment funding of €4.87 million for remedial works on 43 houses in three North Tipperary villages.

“Today’s announcement by my colleague, Minister Michael Finneran, will be used to greatly improve local authority housing in Derrynaflan (Littleton), Ard Mhuire (Templetuohy) and Clohessy Place (Bouladuff)” said Deputy Hoctor.

Deputy Hoctor said that the funding would be used to replace windows and doors, to provide central heating, roof and wall insulation.

“Many of these homes were built before the use of insulation and central heating became widespread” she said “it is important that the Council can bring these homes up to a higher standard of energy efficiency and make other changes which will have a positive impact on resident’s lives”.

Local representatives, Cllr. Seamus Hanafin and Cllr. John Hogan, also welcomed this funding.

Tendering for the works will commence in the coming weeks and North Tipperary County Council would be undertaking the works throughout 2010, added the Deputy.
