Hayes appointment to Chair Tallaght Review very welcome – O’Connor

Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin South West Charlie O’Connor has welcomed the appointment of Dr. Maurice Hayes as Chair of the Review that is to be undertaken at Tallaght Hospital.

“Maurice Hayes is a respected individual and I know he will approach this investigation in a completely independent way.  He will deal with both the delay in reporting radiological examinations and the management of GP referral letters,” said Deputy O’Connor, who is a member of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children.

“I also welcome the appointment of Patricia Gordon as Project Director for the Review.  She is currently Director of The Multiple Sclerosis Society in Northern Ireland and has extensive experience in the medical area,” said Deputy O’Connor.

The Review will be supported by a Steering Group which will include a General Practitioner, patient advocate and a radiologist.  It will also be supported by a Working Group.

“The Steering Group and Working Group that will also be involved in this review are being assembled at the moment and crucially will include a patient advocate.  The terms of reference of the review will be announced next week and I look forward to, as Dr. Hayes expects, the Review reporting in about three months,” concluded Deputy O’Connor.
