Dublin North Fianna Fáil TD Darragh O’Brien has welcomed today’s move by the Labour Relations Commission to invite IMPACT representatives of Cabin Crew at Aer Lingus and management at the airline to talks in an effort to resolve the impasse over the company’s cost reduction plan.
“Just this morning I was in contact with my colleagues, the Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey TD and the Minister for Labour Affairs Dara Calleary TD, to urge them to facilitate reengagement between the parties to deal with this issue. I have received representations from Cabin Crew and union officials in light of the cost reduction measures announced by Aer Lingus last week and Cabin Crew are very concerned about the severity of the measures,” said Deputy O’Brien.
“I believe the difficulties between the parties can be resolved. The Labour Relations Commission is extremely familiar with the issues at hand and can use its expertise to bring this matter to a successful resolution,” added Deputy O’Brien.
“I very much support the efforts that are underway to ensure Ireland has a strong, profitable and sustainable Aer Lingus. The importance of this has been recognised by the majority of workers at the airline. A strong Aer Lingus is crucial for our tourism industry and for passengers who need healthy competition in the market. However we must ensure that we use all of the opportunities available to bring those involved in this process along with us,” concluded Deputy O’Brien.
