Fianna Fáil Dublin North TD Michael Kennedy has said senior management at Iarnród Éireann should appear before the Oireachtas Committee and reassure the public over safety concerns following the Malahide Viaduct accident on August 21st 2009.
“I have written to the Chairman of the Committee today, my colleague Frank Fahy, and asked him to facilitate an early hearing on this matter. I believe it’s very important that Iarnród Éireann takes up this opportunity to meet with committee members, including myself, to discuss the recommendations of its investigation into the accident,” said Deputy Kennedy.
“The accident in August last year could have been very serious indeed and may have led to loss of life. I would again commend the quick action of at Iarnród Éireann employees taken on the day,” added Deputy Kennedy.
“I am also anxious to see the reports of the Rail Safety Commission and the Rail Accident Investigation Unit completed at an early date and published in full,” concluded Deputy Kennedy.
