€36k for Limerick animal welfare groups - Cregan

Animal welfare groups in Limerick are to receive €36,000 in funding according to Limerick West TD John Cregan. The funding is being made available to help these organisations and other animal welfare groups around the country in their work.

Limerick Animal Welfare is to receive €20,000, Limerick Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is to receive €15,000 and Animal Magic in Kilmallock is to receive €1,000.

“These organisations do a lot of good work which mostly goes unheralded,” said Deputy Cregan. “Every year they provide excellent care to pets and other animals throughout Limerick and have also had to deal with some horrible cases of neglect.”

“It can be extremely difficult to deal with some animal welfare cases but these organisations bear it all with grace and try to make the animals involved as comfortable as possible. Having had various dealings with Limerick Animal Welfare, Limerick SPCA and Animal Magic I know the people involved in these groups are completely dedicated to the cause and bring so much care to the work they do.”

“I was delighted that even in these very difficult economic times that money was still found for these groups. These groups will use the money provided very well and I have no doubt that it is going to a very worthy cause. I’m sure all animal lovers throughout Limerick will agree,” Deputy Cregan concluded.
