200 jobs a big win for Dublin as IBM creates new centre – Ardagh

Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin South Central Seán Ardagh has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Batt O'Keeffe TD, that IBM is to locate a new ‘Smarter Cities Technology Centre’ in Dublin and create up to 200 jobs.

“This IBM centre is designed to build a highly skilled team to help world cities develop and commercialise new systems for sustainable and intelligent transport, communication, water and energy structures.  The announcement is a prime example of the Government’s focus on jobs and innovation,” said Deputy Ardagh.

This IDA-supported investment of €66 million will create up to 200 jobs over the next three years.

“Dublin City is going to collaborate with IBM as a ‘test bed’ which will position Dublin as a smarter city – embracing technology to stimulate economic activity.  We need to work hard to make Dublin a more competitive, dynamic global city,” added Deputy Ardagh.

“This development is in line with the Government’s Smart Economy strategy.  It underscores the Government’s commitment to providing an environment where industry and academia can work together to create economic growth through innovation and research,” concluded Deputy Ardagh.
