€20.4 million investment in Mayo’s Regional & Local Roads - Calleary

Minister for Labour Affairs and local Fianna Fáil representative Dara Calleary T.D. has welcomed the allocation of €20, 370,746 to Mayo County Council under the 2010 Regional & Local Roads Programme.

This is the fourth highest allocation in the country.

“I am pleased to announce that Mayo County Council has been allocated over €20 million in funding for it’s regional and local roads programme 2010.

The priority is to protect investment and target resources for urgently required repairs due to severe weather and Minister Dempsey has simplified the grants structure and given more flexibility to local authorities to direct funding to priority cases,” said Minister Calleary.

“These grants, which supplement expenditure by local authorities from their own resources, represent a very significant investment at a time when public finances are under severe pressure.

“I am particularly satisfied with the allocation of €10.5 million in Improvement Grants; €3.368 million for Discretionary Maintenance and almost €4 million for Restoration maintenance.”

“I am also pleased that over €650,000 has been sanctioned for Local Improvement Schemes – a scheme that has proven very successful in the past. €195,000 in Block Grants has been allocated to each of the county’s town councils and a number of specific projects have been sanctioned funding including: €350,000 for the R321 Bohola to Kiltimagh; €150,000 for the R312 Castlebar to Belmullet (Design stage only); €30,000 for the R314 at Carn, Killala ; €10,000 at Culleens, Ballina,” concluded Minister Calleary.
