€10m investment in new cinema important boost for Tallaght - O’Connor

Dublin South West T.D. has welcomed the announcement being made today that cinemas in The Square, Tallaght will refurbished and re-opened before Christmas.

“This is really great news for Tallaght today.  The loss of the UCI cinema was a major blow to jobs, The Square and the community.  I’m delighted to see a major investment is being announced today.  I understand a €10 million investment is being made in the cinema complex in The Square.  This is really going to transform the cinema experience for people in the Tallaght region and ensure a state-of-the-art entertainment venue,” said Deputy O’Connor.

“I congratulate the Paul Ward/Alburn consortium behind this investment project for their vision of the new cinema complex and recognising its importance to people in the community in Tallaght.  This news will be warmly welcomed and supported across Tallaght.  It will also increase the number of people going to The Square which is a major part of the local economy.”

“I’m very aware of the impact the loss of the UCI cinema had on The Square but also on the people working there.  I understand that the people employed in the cinema up until its closure will be given a chance to apply for work in the cinema and this is very welcome.”

“The announcement being made today is good news for Tallaght, the people of Tallaght and the economy of Tallaght and I know it will be well received in the community,” concluded Deputy O’Connor.
